Malfus interrupts our practice with a bit of heavy breathing. Apparently, he’s been involved in the training exercises as well.

“We have to travel outside of the wall today. The timing is awful, but there’s a storm coming. Those predators will be scampering around for shelter. If we don’t find that breach, we could be in for more than just the big cats. Kace is leading a party, and he sent me to ask for you.”

Kace sent the chief on an errand? Unbelievable. Julius answers without hesitation.

“Yeah. I’ll be there in a minute.”

“This may take a couple of days, so bring your gear.”

A couple of days? I can’t go that long without seeing Kace. “I want to go too.”

Once again, my mouth has gone rogue. I do want to go though. I need to be with him. Not having him close to me is killing me.

“That’s up to Kace. I’ve given him full authority on this mission.”

That frigid ass isn’t going to let me go. He won’t even come to the cabin. I’ll just have to force him to let me go.

I climb the hillside and sprint to his cabin. He’s pulling a shirt on when I barge in. He turns to face me with curious eyes.

"You need to be training," he says coolly.

Crossing my arms and narrowing my eyes, I murmur, “I’m going with you on your wall search expedition.”

He scoffs, “I don’t think so. You’ll stay here and train for the competition you were so desperate to enter.”

“I’m not some mousy, docile woman you can boss around. I want to go with you.”

He lets an incredulous laugh free while rolling his eyes.

“Oh believe me, Arena Clash, I have a number of ways to describe you, but mousy and docile don’t make the list.”

He turns back away. “What does make the list, Kaceton Brice?”

He turns back and gets too close to me, bringing back that delicious fire and ice I've missed. “Insufferable, maddening, exasperating, and that’s if I’m feeling charitable.”

He smirks as he mocks a similar sentiment I once shared with him about Malfus. That cocky ass.

“Please let me go.”

He rolls his eyes. “You really do need to train. Why do you want to go so badly? It’s going to be boring and tiring. I can assure you that you won’t be missing much.”

I’ll be missing you. “I haven’t ever traveled outside of the walls. I think now is as good a time as any.”

“Well, it’s not. I’ll need to devote my attention to the task at hand - not deal you trying to seduce me.”

Well he’s obviously noticed my numerous attempts. His smirk reappears and he turns away again to pack his bag.

“I promise I’ll be good. No attempts to seduce Mr. Frigid.”

His eyes cut toward mine with pain. “Mr. Frigid? That’s how you view me? Arena, I told you I wanted to be with you on a deeper level than just sex and games, and you said you couldn’t. You chose backwards. Don’t confuse wounded, broken, or humiliated with frigid.
